Gopher
Pocket gophers are stout-bodied rodents with short legs. On each side of the mouth pocket gophers have external cheek pouches or "pockets" used just for carrying food.
They live almost entirely underground spending most of their time in a tunnel system they construct 6 to 12 inches beneath the soil. A single burrow system can cover several hundred square feet and consists of main tunnels with lateral branches used for feeding or for pushing excavated soil to the surface.
Gophers feed primarily on the roots of herbaceous plants. They may also come above ground to clip small plants within a few inches of the tunnel opening and pull vegetation into the burrow to eat.
Pocket gophers are active throughout the year and if uncontrolled and food is plentiful, can increase to 30 to 40 gophers per acre.

Mole
The mole is a small insect-eating mammal. Moles have cylindrical bodies with slender, pointed snouts and short, bare, or sparsely-haired tails. Their limbs are short and spade-like. Their eyes are poorly developed, and their ears aren't visible.
In California, moles inhabit the Sierra Nevada, coastal range mountains, and the entire coastal zone. Moles live almost entirely underground in a vast network of interconnecting tunnels. They frequently create shallow tunnels just below the surface where they capture worms, insects, and other invertebrates. Moles can tunnel up to 18 feet an hour. They may infrequently consume roots, bulbs, and other plant material, although rodent species (e.g., pocket gophers, meadow voles, and deer mice) are almost always the cause of such chewing damage. By far the greatest damage from moles occurs through their burrowing activity, which dislodges plants and dries out their roots. In lawns, the resulting mounds and ridges are unsightly and disfiguring.

Ground Squirrel
Found throughout most of California, ground squirrels can invade and colonize residential areas.
They have gray-colored hair and their body measures 14 to 20 inches including their tail. Adult squirrels weigh between 1.5 to 2.5 lbs.
Ground squirrels will eat it if it grows, and their diet changes with the season.
Ground squirrel homes are called burrows and are never far from the entrance. The entrance measures 4 inches in diameter or more and the burrow can be up to 30 feet in length and 2 to 6 feet down. Burrowing around trees can damage and dry out the roots, sometimes causing them to fall. Burrows that go under buildings and other structures can sometimes cause expensive repairs.
California law requires all animals to be immediately released or euthanized on the property.
